HYDERABAD: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad Centre has said that the onset of the southwest monsoon was expected to arrive in Telangana in the next 48 hours and cover the entire state by June 26-27,2023. It has issued a code yellow warning for the next five days as thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected at isolated places.

According to IMD officials, light to moderate rains or thundershowers are very likely over isolated parts of the State in the next three days. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are very likely to occur at isolated places in Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Janagaon, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Jogulamba Gadwal districts of Telangana.

There is a possibility of the southwest monsoon spreading to some other parts of Peninsular South India in the next 2-3 days. The lower level winds are mainly from the northwest direction towards Telangana state. As parts of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh have already started receiving rainfall, the southwest monsoon clouds are expected to arrive here in Telangana by June 22,2023 and cover the entire state by June 26-27,2023, the IMD officials said.

Taking to Twitter, T Balaji, popularly known as the Telangana Weatherman said that the monsoon covers the entire South Telangana- Nalgonda, Yadadri - Bhongir, Suryapet, Khammam, Bhadradri, Nagarkurnool, Mahabubnagar, Mahabubabad districts. Hyderabad too has chances for isolated and scattered rains, as dense monsoon clouds are seen hovering in the skies.

Meanwhile, the onset of the southwest monsoon is expected to extend to many parts of Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema on Tuesday. There is a possibility of rain in all parts of the State in the next four days. Heavy rains are expected in many places in the Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions in the next 24 hours, according to IMD Amaravati Center. The IMD officials also predicted that heavy rain would occur in Alluri Sitaramaraju, Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema, East Godavari, Eluru, Kakinada, Annamayya, Chittoor and Sri Sathya Sai districts. The intensity of rain will increase from June 22, 2023.

Taking to Twitter, Sai Kiran, who tweets with the moniker of ‘Vizag Weatherman’ said that the monsoon had knocked on the doors of Vijayawada Guntur. Conditions were very favorable for expansion of the onset of the southwest monsoon in the central part of Andhra Pradesh, he said.
