HYDERABAD: Four students from Nalsar University – Akhil Surya, Lakshya Ananth, Nimisha Mishra, Muskan Sharma- are trying to introduce Telugu and Urdu languages in legal institutions. As part of their research in their fourth year of the programme, the students examined the issues faced by the common man in courts.

The students visited Medchal Malkajigiri, Rangareddy and Secunderabad courts where they met judges, lawyers and common people. During their research, they drew a conclusion that the usage of English language in courts was an impediment to the common man.

To this end, they reported that Telugu and Urdu should also be used on nameplates and notice boards in courts, and orders and judgment copies should also be issued in English as well as in Telugu and Urdu languages. The students also met Mantri Sridevi who is the chairman of Telangana Official Language Association.

Appreciating their research, Sridevi said that she would do her best to cooperate and push for issuance of orders and judgment copies in Telugu and Urdu languages along with English in courts.
