HYDERABAD: The politics of change of names of cities, towns and places have become a top narrative for the Lok Sabha elections especially for the BJP.

Ever since Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced the change of vehicle registration plates from 'TS' to 'TG', the BJP has once again upped its ante to rename a few places in Telangana.

The saffron party's Hyderabad candidate for Lok Sabha polls Kompella Madhavi Latha has been actively campaigning for changing the name of Hyderabad to Bhagyanagar.

During her campaign, Madhavi said, "Hyderabad was known as Bhagyanagar after the Nizam's daughter-in-law Bhagmathi. What is wrong in renaming Hyderabad after the daughter-in-law?"

It is not just Hyderabad, the BJP is actively campaigning for changing names of prominent locations in Telangana.

In the last Assembly session, Nizamabad Urban BJP MLA Dhanpal Suryanarayana had asked the Telangana Government to consider renaming Nizamabad to Induru, Adilabad to Edulapuram, Warangal to Orugallu and Karimnagar to Karipuram. This is now being reiterated in the party campaigns by the BJP leaders.

This is not the first time that the BJP has demanded a name change. Some of the party's prominent leaders like Goshamahal MLA Raja Singh, Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Arvind Union Minister Kishan Reddy, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other senior leaders of the party supported the demand for renaming Hyderabad and other places in Telangana.
