HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court on Friday released orders to ensure the security of Karne Shireesha aka Barrelakka. She is contesting as an independent candidate in the upcoming Assembly elections in Kollapur constituency in the Nagarkurnool district.

Shireesha approached the Telangana High Court and filed an urgent petition on Thursday after her brother Chintu was attacked by five youths in the Vennacherla village earlier this week. In her petition, she urged the court to direct various respondents, including state officials and election commissioners, to provide necessary security throughout her campaign in Kollapur, including the facility of two-plus-two gunmen.

After going through her plea, the Court directed police to provide security for Shireesha until the completion of elections. The court also emphasised that the security provisions should not be limited to recognised political parties and asked the Election Commission to take responsibility for ensuring the safety of all candidates.
