Should the fast-unto-death suggestion made by Revanth Reddy to KTR be seen as democratic? Or is he unleashing a reign of anarchy?

HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is continuing his spree of spewing venom against the Opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

The day before, when BRS working president had announced that the party would fight against the State Government’s volte face on the Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS) by charging whopping sums to mop up approximately Rs. 20,000 crore, Revanth Reddy had suggested that KTR should sit on an indefinite fast at Ambedkar Statue in Sircilla in support of his demand.

It may be recalled that the Congress, when in the Opposition, had demanded that LRS must be done free of cost and fumed against the nominal fee fixed by the BRS regime.

Present Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy had said at that time that the LRS would be done free of cost by the Congress, if elected.

However, the Congress, after ascending to power, made complete volte face and came up with a whopping free structure for the scheme. And, when the BRS announced its protest programme, the Chief Minister wanted KTR to sit on an indefinite hunger strike.

Again on Thursday, Revanth Reddy made a similar observation.

Laying the foundation stone for the Rajiv Rahadari elevated corridor, the Telangana Chief Minister said: “KTR has always taken to Twitter (now ‘X’) and made comments that his party struggle has paid off. What struggle he did?

Surprisingly, Revanth Reddy bragged about his government’s efforts in getting clearances for the elevated corridors project, which was conceived and detailed representations were made by the KCR regime which had also constantly followed them up with the Union Government.

He claimed that his government succeeded in securing permission from the Centre. “KTR has claimed it was because the BRS fight. My suggestion to KTR is to launch a fast unto death at Indira Park for Hyderabad development. KTR should continue the stir until the state gets funds or he sacrifice his life.”

Should this demand put forth by none other than the Chief Minister, a Constitutional authority, himself be seen as democratic? Or is he unleashing a reign of anarchy? What is the logical conclusion he is intending at when he advised KTR to continue his stir until the State gets funds or he sacrifice his life?”

He didn’t stop at that. He went on to add that the Congress activists were ready to support ‘KTR diksha and also protect the BRS leader’.

Revanth Reddy seemed to have been gripped by a sense of insecurity when the Opposition leaders were suggesting that the Congress regime in Telangana would not last long. He is growing jittery. Prompted by this fear, he made filthy remarks in a language that was in bad taste, which NewsTAP decided not to publish.

Claims being hand-in-glove with Centre

When he said that the project was pending for years as “the Centre and State government locked horns on some issues,” did he mean to suggest that he is in league with the BJP-led Central Government? He said that the previous government had side-lined the project and neglected the people's needs.

“Soon after coming to power, my government spoke to the Union government and found a solution to the problem. I met the Prime Minister and the Defence Minister and appraised them of the pending project issue,” he claimed indicating that his proposal was given a nod by the Centre in a jiffy.

Revanth Reddy said that the previous government delayed the allocation of land and the renewal of the lease of the Chandrayana Gutta Defence land. “My government reviewed with the authorities and handed over the defence lands,” he claimed.

Waxing eloquent on the Centre, he said that the state cooperated and the centre and in return the Union government helped the state government.

The Chief Minister asked: “Has any permanent development been made in Hyderabad during the 10 years of the BRS rule? “ and said the development took place in Hyderabad was only during the Congress rule.

He conveniently forgot the launch of the Hyderabad metro rail in all the corridors in phase 1, numerous flyovers, underpasses, foot-over bridges, Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge making commute seamless, construction of the new Secretariat building, Dr Ambedkar statue, completion of the long leftover stretch of the Outer Ring Road. Several lake fronts were developed. The BRS Government had commenced the Strategic Nala Development Programme to protect the city roads from flooding. Basthi dawakhanas were launched. Many other such projects were taken up and completed, but the Chief Minister avoided talking about them.

State government is committed to develop Hyderabad as an international city. We play politics only during the elections. The only goal before the government is state development after the elections.

Government is also committed to develop the Contonment area in the coming days.
