WARANGAL: A rowdy-sheeter was brutally hacked to death by a group of vendors from Uttar Pradesh near the railway station in the city in the wee hours of Wednesday.

According to police, the deceased was identified as Syed Nazeer (39). He is survived by his wife and four daughters and who resided in his in-law's house in Shiva Nagar. Nazeer was maintaining a food stall in Warangal railway station, the police said.

The police said that a few months ago, Nazeer had developed a friendship with vendors from Uttar Pradesh who sold key chains on trains. The vendors were staying in a room near the railway station. Almost a fortnight ago, the vendors were involved in a fight with a resident of Shiva Nagar in front of a bar and restaurant near the railway station.

Both parties filed a complaint with Mills Colony police about the matter. Upon obtaining information about the fight, Nazeer settled the matter after discussing with both parties. On Tuesday night, Nazeer went to the room where the vendors were staying. Heated arguments were exchanged between the vendors and Nazeer.

All of a sudden, the vendors attacked Nazeer with an iron rod and hacked him to death and fled the spot. One among the vendors, Vikas, remained at the crime spot as his wife was pregnant. Locals alerted the police about the incident. A team of police personnel from Mills Colony station rushed to the spot. A case was registered and Nazeer's body was shifted to MGM hospital for post-mortem, the police said.

"We are investigating the case from all possible angles to ascertain the actual reason for the vendors killing Nazeer. We have taken Vikas into custody and are questioning him", said Mills Colony police station circle inspector Suresh.
