NEW DELHI: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu has said that his party will contest the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections all by itself. He also ruled out any alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Naidu made the announcement in Delhi on Tuesday and said that the TDP had already formed a committee to decide on the number of seats it was planning to contest and to receive applications from the candidates

The TDP has been out of power in Telangana since the State was formed in 2014. However, Naidu said that the TDP was confident of winning the elections and forming the next Government in Telangana owing to a strong cadre base and a good track record of governance.

Naidu also said that he was mulling of how to rebuild Andhra Pradesh. He said that he has not ruled out any option, including an alliance with the BJP. However, he said that the time for an alliance with the BJP in Telangana has passed.

Naidu said that he came out of the NDA Government for special status for Andhra Pradesh. He said that special status was the sentiment of the people. He criticised the ruling YSRCP Government in Andhra Pradesh for destroying everything. He said that because of the YSRCP's policies, Telangana and Andhra had lost their balance.
