NIZAMABAD: As many as 90 girls fell ill due to suspected food poisoning at the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), Bheemgal in Nizamabad on Monday night.

The students consumed contaminated food as dinner in their hostel mess on Monday night and suffered from symptoms like vomiting, diarrhoea and stomach ache. Alerted hostel staff informed KGBV special officer in-charge Sobha at 1 am and rushed the girls to Government Hospital in Nizamabad, where they were undergoing treatment.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Vemula Prasanth Reddy asked Collector Rajeev Gandhi Hanumanthu to inspect the school and initiate necessary disciplinary action against those responsible for suspected food poisoning. The minister also spoke to hospital superintendent Dr Pratimaraj and urged her to provide better medical care for the affected girls.

Earlier, Collector Rajeev Gandhi Hanumanthu visited the hospital and enquired about the health condition of the affected girls. He said that a team of officials were also asked to carry out an inspection at the hostel to verify the drinking water, food, cleanliness and hygiene maintained at the place.
