HYDERABAD: Telangana Congress women leaders on Friday chanted 'Hanuman Chalisa' in protest against the state BJP unit's plan to hold mass chanting of Hanuman Chalisa at Gandhi Bhavan, against the Congress party's electoral vow to ban Bajarang Dal.

Bajrang Dal activists in Telangana assembled in front of Gandhi Bhavan on Friday and recited 'Hanuman Chalisa,' while women Congress leaders read the same in response to the right wing. They argued that the BJP believed that only they knew these things, but “we also know these things and can chant Hanuman chalisa.”

Telangana Congress president Revanth Reddy told reporters on Friday, "Let's read Hanuman Chalisa, if BJP MP K Lakshman and Union Minister Kishan Reddy also come.” Kishan Reddy, Laxman, and other BJP leaders had joined MIM, he quipped.

Kishan Reddy and Lakshman should first learn the Hanuman Chalisa. He claimed that the BJP was using such slogans to divert attention away from the 40 percent commissions.

All of this began when the Karnataka Congress promised in its campaign to ban Bajrang Dal, comparing the organisation to the Popular Front of India (PFI). The Government of India recently banned the PFI for its anti-national acts.

Telangana State BJP chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar called for state-wide demonstrations on Friday in front of Congress offices and leaders' houses, reciting Hanuman Chalisa. Protests were planned in response to the Karnataka unit of the Congress party's proposal in its election manifesto to ban Bajrang Dal.

The police foiled the bid of the BJP activists who tried to gather and chant Hanuman Chalisa in front of many Congress leader’s’ residences in Telangana.

Commotion prevailed for some time in front of the house of Congress MLC in Jagitial T Jeevan Reddy when the BJP activists gathered to chant Hanuman Chalisa.
