Telangana Drug Control Administration apprehends quack in Bhupalapally

BHUPALPALLY: The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) apprehended an individual on Wednesday for posing as a rural medical practitioner who was practicing medicine without proper qualifications at his clinic in Mahamutharam Mandal, Jayashankar Bhupalpally District.

During the raid, DCA officials discovered a large stock of medicines at the premises without any drug license. They found 29 varieties of medicines, including antibiotics, analgesics, and anti-ulcer drugs. The DCA officials seized the stock worth of Rs. 26,800 during the raids.

Furthermore, the DCA officials uncovered several higher-generation 'antibiotic injections' at the clinic. The indiscriminate sale of antibiotics by unqualified individuals may have disastrous consequences on the health of the rural public, including the emergence of Antimicrobial Resistance.

P. Pavani, Drugs Inspector, Bhupalpally, and M. Aravind Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Warangal, were among the officers who conducted the raid. The DCA officers collected samples for analysis, and further investigation will be carried out, with appropriate action taken as per the law against all offenders.

Wholesalers and dealers who supply medicines to such unqualified persons, stocking and selling drugs without a license, are also punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Stringent action will be taken against such wholesalers and dealers. They must ensure that the recipient entities hold a valid drug license before supplying medicines to them.

The Telangana Drugs Control Administration issues drug licenses for the stocking and selling of medicines in accordance with the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Stocking drugs for sale without a license is punishable under the Act, with imprisonment for up to five years. Surprise checks will be intensified on unqualified persons engaged in stocking and selling drugs without a license, with stringent action taken as per the law against violators.
