NEW DELHI: The Telangana Government on Thursday moved the Supreme Court against Governor Tamilisai Soundarajan for stalling the 10 Bills for assent.
In the writ petition filed by the state Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari, the government urged the Apex Court to give directions to the Governor to give assent to the Bills pending with her at the earliest possible saying that the Bills were related to administration.
The government named Governor and the Raj Bhavan secretary as the respondents and the petition is likely to come up for a hearing on Friday.
The Telangana Government claimed that as many as seven bills were pending approval from September 2023 and three from the last month respectively.
According to the State Government, Telangana Public Employment (Regulation of Age of Superannuation) (Amendment) Bill, 2022, Telangana Motor Vehicles Taxation (Amendment) Bill, 2022, Azamabad Industrial Area (Termination and Regulation of Leases) (Amendment) Bill, 2022, Telangana Universities Common Recruitment Board Bill, 2022, Telangana Municipal Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2022, University of Forestry Telangana Bill, 2022, Telangana State Private Universities (Establishment and Regulation) (Amendment) Bill, 2022, Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (Amendment) Bill, 2023, Telangana Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and the Telangana Municipalities (Amendment) Bill, 2023 were pending at Raj Bhavan.
It is known that there is a gap between the Government and the Governor for quite some time. However, it is to be seen how the Supreme Court would deal with this peculiar case.
