HYDERABAD: The Telangana police department on Thursday filed a criminal revision appeal in the High Court here in connection with their remand attempt against BJP MLA Raja Singh which was rejected by a local court. The petition opposed the ruling of a local magistrate who denied the Hyderabad police's remand motion pertaining to the arrest of MLA T Raja Singh. The petition will be taken up by Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan on Friday.

The police officials on Thursday moved the appeal in the high court as a lunch motion which the High Court agreed to consider. Raja Singh, a Telangana BJP MLA, is accused of posting a controversial video, hurting the sentiments of one community, on social media platforms. He was also placed under suspension by the BJP after the video sparked protests in the Old City here.

Police on Tuesday took MLA Raja Singh into custody and produced him before the 14th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Namapally Criminal Courts.

The judge, however, denied the police's request for remand and ordered the MLA's immediate release citing non-compliance of procedure under section 41(A) of the CRPC.

This prompted the police to file an appeal on Thursday in the High Court challenging the magistrate's order.
