HYDERABAD: Enforcement agencies have seized cash, liquor, gold, silver and other valuables worth Rs 101.18 crore in the last eight days after the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into effect in connection with the Assembly elections in Telangana.

In an official statement released by the Telangana DGP’s office on Tuesday, the officials said that total cash amounting to Rs 55.99 crore and liquor worth Rs 2.60 crore were seized. Drugs and narcotics including 1,234 kgs of ganja estimated at Rs 3.42 crore, 0.3 liters of weed oil and 0.13 MDMA were also seized in just eight days of MCC being implemented by Telangana Police.

During the checks, the police also seized precious metals like gold and silver worth Rs 38.45 crore, which included 72 kgs of gold, 429.1 kgs of silver and diamond-42.25 carats. Other freebies worth Rs 70.04 lakh were also seized during the same period. The seizures were higher as compared with the previous elections in 2018 where the total unaccounted cash and illegal goods worth about Rs 103 crore between October and the election day, December 7, the officials said.
