HYDERABAD: The 77th Independence Day was celebrated in the State with patriotic fervour on Tuesday. Ministers, legislators, people’s representatives and higher officials participated in the celebrations in their respective areas.

At Siddipet, Telangana Minister for Finance and Health T Harish Rao hoisted the tricolour at Government Degree College Grounds. Addressing a gathering, Harish Rao said that Telangana, the youngest State in the country, was progressing on all fronts under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR). "Telangana has become the rice bowl of India, which has earlier witnessed large numbers of farmer suicides and migration of people to other places," Harish Rao said.

Highlighting the initiatives taken by KCR, Harish Rao said that the State Government had expeditiously completed the Kaleshwaram Irrigation Project, Ranganaiaksagar, Mallannasagar and Kondapochammasagar to provide irrigation to about 2.85 lakh acres in the district. "Mission Kakatiya is yielding results positively. As many as 2,131 tanks were restored under Mission Kakatiya, "Harish Rao said, and added that Agriculture, IT and Industries, traditional artisans, women, schools, educational institutions and tourism spots were witnessing a holistic development.

Animal Husbandry Minister T Srinivas Yadav hoisted the National Flag at Palamuru University gate. Srinivas Yadav expressed his concern over the attacks against women even after seven-and-half decades of Independence in the country. The BRS Government was committed to the development of all, irrespective of caste and religion. Informing the welfare to be taken in the Palamuru University, he said that hostel buildings, indoor stadium and other facilities were being provided to the students.

"As many as 1,000 Gurukuls have been established in Telangana since its inception. An indoor stadium and sports complex are being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 20 crore at Osmania University," Srinivas Goud said. He also said that a food park would be established in Hanwada to provide employment opportunities for all sections of the people.

In Hyderabad, Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, along with Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner Ronald Rose hoisted the tricolour at the GHMC office. Vijayalakshmi highlighted the infrastructure projects taken up in Hyderabad under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) to ease traffic congestion and provide transportation facilities for the residents.

Apart from that, the mayor handed over the appreciation letters to the GHMC officials marking the decennial celebrations of Telangana. She also outlined the progress of various projects taken up under Hyderabad Road Development Corporation Limited (HRDCL), Comprehensive Road Maintenance Programme (CRMP) and Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP).

AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi also hoisted the National Flag at Madina Circle in Hyderabad and participated in the Independence Day celebrations.
