NIZAMABAD: The issue of appointment of a registrar to Telangana University in Nizamabad turned more controversial following the cancellation of the relieving order of Prof. Nirmala Devi from Osmania University. The relieving order was canceled, under dramatic circumstances, within hours of Nirmala Devi taking the charge as registrar of the Telangana University citing that the signature of the vice-chancellor is not valid.

It is known that the governing body of the Telangana University has appointed Prof. Yadagiri as the registrar to replace Vidyavardhini. However, Vice-Chancellor Ravinder Yadav, who objected to this, approached the High Court, which suspended the decisions taken by the governing body. Subsequently, Nirmala Devi, who is the head of the Department of Electronics and Communications at Osmania University, was appointed as the Registrar of Telangana University.

Prof. Nirmala Devi assumed the office on Wednesday afternoon after being appointed on a one-year tenure. Later, the Osmania University registrar objected to it and cancelled the order saying that the order relieving a professor from the university should bear the signature of the registrar.

Nirmala Devi, while reacting to her appointment, has said that she had come and assumed charge as registrar and would have to perform her duties for up to a year. As many as five registrars were shuffled in the last 20 months in the Telangana University which was marred by controversies in this regard.
