WANAPARTHY: Telangana will reap rich rewards in their field of agriculture, ensuring good future for farmers by shifting focus to palm oil cultivation, said IT Minister KT Rama Rao (KTR).

Speaking after laying a foundation stone for Rs 300 crore palm oil factory at Sankireddypalli village in Kothakota mandal of Wanaparthy district along with Agriculture Minister Niranjan Reddy on Friday said, KTR said, "It is the efforts of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) that agriculture is being given precedence. He is the only Chief Minister in the country to deposit Rs 73,000 crore in the accounts of 70 lakh farmers under the Rythu Bandhu scheme," he said.

Stating the Telangana Government's blueprint for the agricultural sector, KTR said, "KCR is pro-farmer Government. It is not enough to grow only rice. We now have to focus on palm oil cultivation and we will be providing subsidies. 70 per cent of the cooking oil required in the country is being imported from abroad. We have now set a target to increase oil palm cultivation to 20 lakh acres in the next five years. Oil will then be produced from Telangana for the whole country."

Speaking on the development that took place in Palamuru after the formation of Telangana State, KTR said, "Previously Palamauru was known for migration. Now it is known for irrigation. Now the fate of the district will change with the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lif Irrigation project. Unutilised waters from Krishna River is now being diverted to the agricultural lands in Palamuru."
