HYDERABAD: Raking up a new political storm, YSRCT president Sharmila Reddy called upon people not to turn a thief into a Chief Minister by voting for him.

“I am not saying that Revanth Reddy is a thief, Every party has a few of them but people must resist making one thief into a Chief Minister,” she said addressing media on Monday.

Trying to clarify her request to people urging them not to elect thieves in the ensuing elections, Sharmila said that it was the scribe who took the name of Revanth Reddy.

“I didn’t say that he is a thief. But a recent Supreme Court in its verdict against the quash petition filed by Revanth Reddy made it amply clear that he is indeed a thief and was caught in the cash-for-vote case,” Sharmila observed.

She said that people from some other political outfit called him ‘Rate Entha Reddy’ meaning ‘what is the rate Reddy’. She added that she did not decide to extend support to the Congress party expecting some benefit. The decision was taken for the people of Telangana, she said.

Condemning comments that she betrayed her party, she said that she was the one who walked 3,800 km during her padayatra. “My father YSR used to fight against Chief Ministers of his own party, so people are important not the party,” she explained.
