Trouble between AP, Telangana at Nagarajunasagar Dam

HYDERABAD: After a long ceasefire, the police of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are once again at loggerheads at the Nagarjunasagar Dam on Wednesday.

A 'tit-for-tat' fight has raged between them with both acting against each other. The dispute erupted when the Telangana Special Police Force (SPF) stopped the vehicle of an AP Police Sub-Inspector from taking the road atop the dam. Enraged by this, the Andhra Pradesh police retaliated by imposing penalties (through challans) on the vehicles of Telangana SPF personnel when they crossed into the Andhra Pradesh side.

With both sides accusing the other of breaching their territory, the feud only appeared to be taking a turn for the worse. However, following an escalation of the issue, higher authorities on both sides are said to have pacified the forces of both the States and advised them to avoid further confrontation.

This was not the first time since bifurcation that the two sides clashed for territorial supremacy. Even in the past, policemen of both the States got into an altercation at the Nagarjunasagar Dam at the height of the Krishna river water dispute. In one of the ugly moments, the police forces had even attacked each other with lathis.
