HYDERABAD: At least 10 students of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan sustained minor injuries when they met with a freak accident inside RK Cinemax in Banjara Hills here on Thursday.

The students fell on the escalator after a malfunction caused it to move faster, creating chaos and panic for a brief while. Luckily, everyone escaped with minor injuries in the mishap. The students were at the cinema complex to watch the film 'Gandhi', which is being screened across Telangana as part of the Swatantra Bharatha Vajrotsavalu celebrations.

The injured were quickly rushed to the Apollo Hospital where the doctors declared them as completely safe and out of danger.

Reacting to the incident, the vice-principal of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan confirmed that all the students who were involved in the incident were safe. Students of classes from 6th to 12th were taken to the film screening. The parents of the 10 students who sustained minor injuries had been informed and there was absolutely nothing to panic, according to the vice-principal.

Hyderabad District Collector Amoy Kumar, acting on the directions of Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, personally supervised the treatment given to the students at Apollo Hospitals in Jubilee Hills. He reassured everyone including the parents that there was absolute nothing to worry as the students sustained minor injuries in the incident.

Hyderabad Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi also visited the hospital and enquired with the students about their well-being and the treatment.
