HYDERABAD: Cybercrime police who recovered a whopping Rs.1.50 crore will be refunding the respective amounts to the victims who made use of 1930 phone number to lodge complaints.

While investigation and detection of cases is the primary responsibility of investigation officers in cyber crime cases, the major challenge is recovery of the amount lost by the victims. However, with the initiative of 1930 national helpline number and the national cyber crime reporting portal to report online financial fraud, there is ample chance of putting on hold the lost amount, provided the victim reports the same immediately on this number and portal.

Whatever amount is put on hold needs to be refunded to the victims as the first step to solace the victims.

This year starting from January 1 to till date, Cyber Crime Police of Cyberabad have processed 39 cases for refund of such put-on hold amount.

The IX Addl Metropolitan Magistrate, Rangareddy Dist at Kukatpally court has given orders for refund of an amount of Rs 1,49,41,670 which will be credited to the accounts of the victims.

The public is urged to be alert to prevent cyber frauds and if they loose money in fraud, immediately report by calling to 1930 and on cybercrime portal.

This will help the authorities to freeze the transactions in multiple layers and put on hold the amounts. The sooner they report, the more amount that can be put on hold.

Refund process

  • The victim/complainant has to file a petition under Sections 457 CrPC in the jurisdictional court which after taking investigating officer’s opinion and following due procedure passes orders for refund of amount put on hold.
  • After receiving the court order, the officer will inform the banks about the same so that the banks transfer the amount put on hold in suspect’s accounts into the victims accounts.
