HYDERABAD: Hyderabad has been ranked as the third safest city in India in 2022, following Kolkata and Pune, with the least number of cognizable offences per lakh population, according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report.

When compared to the year 2021, the cybercrime increased by 48.47 percent in Telangana during the year 2022, economic offences increased by 41.37 percent and crimes involving cheating increased by 43.30 percent, while property offences, economic offences, cyber crime, and crime against women drew public attention.

Telangana Director-General of Police (DGP) Ravi Gupta on Tuesday unveiled a book titled ‘Crime in Telangana-2022’. The book was compiled under the supervision of Additional DGP CID Mahesh M Bhagwat. The book was published by State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB), CID Telangana is first of its attempts since the inception of Telangana in 2014.

“The Telangana Police are paying special attention to investigation and prosecution. Our special emphasis on optimum utilisation of scientific tools, forensic science, cyber technology and ensuring high quality digital evidence to secure more convictions in 2022,” Ravi Gupta said.

With the installation of 1,74,205 CCTV cameras during the year 2022, the total number of CCTV cameras functioning in Telangana State was now increased to 10,25,849 and due to that 18,234 cases were detected during the year 2022. The conventional crime was dominated by cyber crime and white collar offences, the DGP said.

ADG women safety wing Sikha Goel, ADG (Coordination) Abilasha Bisht, ADG (Personal) Soumya Mishra, ADG (Law and Order) Sanjay Jain and other staff officers in DGP office were also present.
