HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday said that he would remain in power for the next 10 years, dismissing BRS President and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao's claims that the BRS would come to power at jet speed.

Addressing a public meeting at Lal Bahadur Stadium in Hyderabad to hand out appointment letters to newly recruited police constables, Revanth Reddy responded to KCR's statements at a public meeting in Nalgonda, where he had claimed that the BRS would return to power quickly and stated that he would see how the BRS would come to power. He said that he would be the Chief Minister for the next decade and went on to say that the Indiramma Rajyam would prevail for the another 10 years, if the people blessed.

The Chief Minister’s remark suddenly gave a jerk to senior Congress leaders who perennially wait for their turn to occupy the “throne”.

They already began admitting privately that it’s too much for Revanth Reddy to talk like that.

“He will be in the post as long as he enjoys the confidence of the Congress high command and the trust of the party legislators,” felt a minister on the condition of anonymity.

Irked by the claim, a senior leader said that Revanth Reddy did not fully understand the Congress culture yet. He would get used to it after the first setback at some point in time.

There were at least half a dozen aspirants for the post of the Chief Minister in the Congress much before the elections.

Deputy Chief Minister Malli Bhatti Vikramarka, who had undertaken a long padayatra, was a serious contender.

Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy had announced during electioneering that he would be the Chief Minister.

Former TPCC president and Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy had hoped that he would be picked up for the top even at the level of confabulations with the party high command on the composition of the Cabinet till the last minute.

Leaders like Madhu Yaskhi and Jagga Reddy would have been competing with Revanth in the race, had they won the elections.

Congress is a school where diverse ideas are entertained and everything is allowed, however chaotic it may be.

Revanth Reddy surprised everyone one having M Anil Kumar Yadav, son to former Secunderabad MP Anjan Kumar Yadav, chosen for Rajya Sabha. Renuka Chowdhary’s selection could be directly handled by the high command.

The second seat for now showed Revanth Reddy’s fortified positions in the party.
