HYDERABAD: Telangana added one more big international player under its wing. With the inauguration of two large factories of the world's second largest aircraft equipment manufacturer, Safran Group in Hyderabad on Thursday, the state's global presence has moved one more notch up.


Telangana's IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao took personal interest in bringing the company to Hyderabad. For what started in 2018, the minister, from time to time, followed up with all concerned the project's progress and made it possible for two mega factories to be set up in just four years. Commending KTR's effort, Industries Department Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan tweeted: "35 meetings in Hyd, Delhi and Paris ... 400 plus mail exchanges ā€¦ relentless pursuit over 4 years led by Minister @KTRTRSā€¦ This is what it takes to bring 4 marquee @SAFRAN projects to Telangana --- electric harness, LEAP engines, MRO and IT centre."The Safran Group had a long history of operating in India though joint ventures with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and this was the first time the company was setting up its own shop in the country.

Safran Electric and Power Facility, to manufacture wire harnesses for Aircraft Engines, was set up with an investment of $8 million and Safran Aircraft Engine, to manufacture components for LEAP turbofan engines, with an investment of 36 million Euros would create 550 high-skilled employment opportunities.

The Safran Group had also announced the launch of their third mega investment in the city. They would be setting up their first and largest MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Operations) facility at an investment of Rs. 1,200 crores. At the inaugural of the factories, KTR said, "We are extremely happy that Safran has now announced their third mega investment in a row in the State of Telangana - the Safran Aero Engine MRO project."

Telangana's IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao inaugurated the factories. Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay, CEO of Safran Group Oliver Andries, CEO of Safran Engines Jean Paul Alary, Industries Department Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan and Aerospace and Defence Director Praveen PA were also present.
