HYDERABAD: The role of RTC workers in the achievement of Telangana state is commendable. No one will forget the sacrifices of the RTC workers, says Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.

Flagging off a fleet of 100 new buses near the Dr B R Ambedkar statue here on Saturday, the Chief Minister said that the RTC workers boycotted their duties and stalled the bus transportation during the ‘Sakala janula samme’ programme. RTC workers hoped that their long-pending problems would be solved once Telangana attained statehood.

The RTC staff held a 90-day strike but their demands fell on deaf ears under the the then state government. The previous government neglected the bereaved families of 36 workers who died during the strike.

The previous government dissolved the trade unions and did not solve the problems of the victim families.

RTC workers played an important role in the formation of this people's government. He credited the workers with implementation of the first of the six guarantees.

After the formation of the Congress government in Telangana, the first budget was introduced on Saturday. The budget outlay was Rs 2,75,891 crore. The government prepared a realistic budget based on the facts. The Congress government would not tell lies like the previous government, he said.

The government was releasing Rs 281 crore to RTC despite the income being reduced. The free bus service for women helped to strengthen the RTC.

With the blessing of all RTC workers, the people’s government was formed in the state and was moving on the path of development, claimed the Chief Minister.

“We will govern the state in such a way that the entire country will emulate the Telangana model in the administration,” he observed.
