VIJAYAWADA: A timely rescue operation carried out by a team of State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) team saved a man's life in Vijayawada. The man, Naveen Kumar (38) reportedly attempted to die by suicide and jumped into the river Krishna near the Kanaka Durga Ghat.

As per details, Naveen Kumar, a cable worker hailing from the Ajith Singh Nagar of Vijayawada, tried to end his life, unable to cope up with 'family burdens'. At around 6 pm on Tuesday, he plunged into the river near the ghat, causing commotion there.

Luckily, an SDRF team attached to its 6th Battalion was on ghat duty at that time. The team, led by RI Praveen Kumar, rushed to the spot and one of its members lowered himself to get hold of Naveen Kumar. With the help of a rope, Kumar was pulled out of the river water and to safety alive. Everyone heaved a sigh of relief on seeing the cable worker being alive and intact. He was reportedly in an extremely inebriated condition.

Naveen Kumar was later handed over to the Vijayawada One Town Police for a session of counselling.
