Tension grips Nagarjunasgar dam as AP police occupy stretch up to 13 gates; Congress cries foul

NALGONDA: High tension prevailed on the Nagarjuna Sagar dam when the policemen from Andhra Pradesh allegedly barged and set up fencing. Around 500 policemen of APSP accompanied by senior officials reached the dam around 2 am on Thursday and claimed the 13th gate part belonged to their State.

The APSP personnel reportedly clashed with the personnel of TSSF, who were guarding the dam. Some of the Telangana policemen were injured in the incident. The AP policemen also damaged the CCTV cameras setup at the gate as a part of the security arrangement. With the situation going out of control, they took the dam up to 13th gate into their control and set up fencing at the gate.

Upon obtaining the information about the incident, Miryalaguda DSP Venkatagiri rushed to the spot and suggested to the AP policemen remove the fencing on the dam as the dam maintenance would be taken care of by the irrigation department. With lack of response from the AP policemen, Venkatagiri left the place with this team. Amid the chaos, Palnadu SP Ravi Shankar Reddy expressed his anger towards media representatives who were present at the scene and even seized the mobile phones of the media representatives at Nagarjunasagar.

Reacting to the incident, Bhuvanagiri MP Komatireddy Venkata Reddy lashed out at Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) for encouraging diversion tactics during the elections. He accused KCR of creating dramas to distract people's attention and trying to raise Telangana sentiment for electoral advantage. Venkata Reddy claimed that KCR was resorting to these tactics out of fear of defeat in the elections.

TPCC president A Revanth Reddy accused KCR of creating disturbances at Nagarjuna Sagar dam for his political mileage on the polling day. “KCR had utterly failed in addressing the issue for the last nine-day-half-a-years. The Congress will resolve the water dispute issues between the both States soon after coming to power. People should be cautious and act accordingly,” he said.
