HYDERABAD: An ugly fan war broke out in the stands of the Uppal Stadium in Hyderabad during the IPL 2023 match between hosts the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Mumbai Indians on Tuesday (April 18, 2023) night.

As it turned out, more than the cricketing passions, the influence of alcohol appeared to have triggered the brawl between the fans of the two teams during the course of the match. A video shot by one of the spectators showed how a handful of fanatics, reportedly in an inebriated condition, came to blows with one another. Even the intervention of the policemen on hand could not cool down the tempers as the unruly fans, supporting the two IPL teams, threw punches at each other in the stands.

Realising that the situation was going out of control, the policemen quickly separated the warring fans from the rest of the crowd and whisked them out of the stadium to restore normalcy in the stands. A preliminary inquiry revealed that all the trouble-makers were heavily loaded with alcohol and created ruckus with their clash, under its influence. The incident reportedly happened during the second half of the match when the host team, SRH, was batting to chase down an imposing target of 192 set by MI.

SRH eventually lost the match as they were all out for 178 in the final over (19.5) of their innings due to a lacklustre batting display by most of its top guns.
