Gold chain snatched from woman in Anantapur; act caught on CCTV camera

ANANTAPUR: A chain-snatcher grabbed a gold chain from a woman right in front of her house in Anantapur city on Thursday morning. The CCTV footage of the incident has become viral as it showed the chilling sequence of events in the incident.

In the video, Marekka, the victim, was sweeping the open yard in front of her house as part of her daily chores. Two persons came on a motorbike before one of them approached Marekka and appeared to be asking her for road directions. He was seen chatting up Marekka briefly before diverting her attention towards the other side. Even as the woman looked the other side, the assailant snatched away the gold chain from her neck and fled on the waiting motorbike.

All this happened in the span of a few seconds leaving Marekka shocked and dumbstruck. The entire incident was captured on the nearby CCTV camera. Based on a complaint from the victim, the police retrieved the CCTV footage and began their manhunt for the culprits based on this evidence.
