L&T to restore damaged pillars of Medigadda barrage

HYDERABAD: The Larsen & Toubro (L&T) group, which executed the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) has assured the Telangana Government that it would take up a technical assessment and rectify the damaged pillars at Medigadda barrage at the earliest.

In an official statement, Suresh Kumar, general manager and hydel and tunnel business unit head, L&T, said that at one of the locations of Block-7 of the barrage, a portion of the bridge was observed to be sagging after a loud noise on Saturday evening.

"L&T has built the 1.632 Km long Lakshmi Barrage (Medigadda) with 86 piers for the State of Telangana in 2019 and since then the barrage was in operation and withstood for the last five flood seasons, including the recent 2023 flood season.

"Last year, this barrage experienced the highest recorded flood of 28.70 lakh cusecs against design discharge of 28.25L cusecs. The barrage continued to operate safely withstood even in unprecedented floods of July 2022," Suresh said.

"Our technical expert team is already deputed to the project site to assess the abrupt cause of the damages along with the State authorities," the L&T representative added
