BALKONDA: Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy, accompanied by farmers of the region, celebrated the release of waters from the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) into the Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) flood flow canal on Thursday.

The Minister offered prayers at the canal at Uppulur of Kammarpalli mandal along with hundreds of farmers who waited for the arrival of the Kaleshwaram waters just in time to save the Vanakalam cropping season.

“The foresight of K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) saved the farmers. Did anyone imagine that water would go up the hill, but he did that magic,” Prashanth Reddy said. He expressed happiness that the rejuvenation of SRSP took place when he was representing the Balkonda constituency.

The Minister said that sending water to cover a 300-km distance through reverse pumping was an engineering marvel. “Hereafter, canal irrigation throughout the year will be a possibility. Farmers need not depend on rain,” he said.

Prashanth Reddy criticised opposition parties for slinging mud on the Government that completed the KLIP in record time to save the upland farmers. He wondered how the opposition parties saw Rs one-lakh-crore corruption in a Rs 90,000-crore project.

He said that farmers from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra and other parts of the country were in praise of KCR for implementing farmer-centric welfare schemes in Telangana.
