KARIMNAGAR: Karimnagar police and district officials had to spend some anxious moments on Thursday when Telangana BC Welfare, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar was involved in a freak accident in a lake in Asifnagar of Karimnagar district. A country boat he was travelling in capsized, causing commotion among the onlookers.
The incident happened when Gangula Kamalakar attended the Cheruvula pandaga festivities at the Asifabad lake in Karimnagar rural mandal as part of the Telangana Formation Day decennial celebrations. Urged by his followers, he boarded a small country boat to explore the lake. But the small boat capsized soon after and the minister fell into the waters.
He was however quickly rescued by his security men and the authorities on hand and helped to stand back on his feet. As everyone heaved a sigh of relief, the minister went ahead with his programme schedule.
