Video – Car with inmates washed away by flash flood in AP

ELURU: A car with people inside was swept away in flash floods in Eluru district of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday. A search is on to locate the car and until the last reports came in, there was no news on the condition of its inmates, amid fears on their safety. The two Telugu states have been receiving a fresh bout of rains since Monday night. This caused instant floods to many rivulets and streams at several places.

The jaw-dropping incident, which was captured on smartphones, happened on the causeway across the Padamati canal located between Kannapuram and Buttayagudem of the district. Reports suggest that the driver of the car braved the overflowing water to cross the causeway. But just when the vehicle was midway, a wave of flash flood forced it off the causeway.

Even as everyone watched the horror in utter helplessness, the car was washed away by the strong water currents, taking it out of sight in a split second.

The locals, who informed the police about the missing car, have themselves launched into an impromptu search operation to trace the ill-fated vehicle.
