Ambedkar’s 133rd birth anniversary was chosen for unveiling of the statue between Telangana’s new Secretariat and the NTR Garden
A pet project of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, the statue is touted to become a major tourist attraction
The idea of an imposing statue of the ‘Father of Indian Constitution’ reflects KCR’s vision to uniquely honour the iconic leader
It comes with a multi-layered plan to project the BRS as the sole saviour of Indian society and its welfare
By also naming Telangana Secretariat after Dr B R Ambedkar, KCR cannily corners the BJP over its Central Vistra, the new Parliament project
The entire Ambedkar statue project was executed at an estimated cost of Rs 146 crores spread across 11.4 acres
The circular building shouldering the statue will feature a museum, library and an audio-visual hall over a sprawling 20,000 sq.ft area
KPC Projects Limited, which grounded the project, used about 111 tonnes of bronze to cast the outer cladding
The outer cladding covers a strong inner foundation of non-corrosive stainless steel framework and heavy concrete mix
The statue was designed by renowned sculptors Ram Vanji Sutar and Anil Ram Sutar
The father-son duo also designed the 597-foot-tall statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, or the ‘Statue of Unity’, in Gujarat
