VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra Pradesh set a new record for postal ballot applications in connection with the upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

Approximately 5 lakh applications for postal ballots were received from government staff assigned to election duty. Of these, 4.50 lakh came from government employees, while the rest were from Anganwadi workers and other personnel.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) made extensive arrangements to ensure that government employees on election duty could exercise their right to vote. They were allowed to submit their postal ballots on May 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th.

Simultaneous elections for 175 Assembly and 25 Lok Sabha seats were scheduled for May 13.

In 2019, around one lakh government employees voted via postal ballots, though nearly 59,000 were declared invalid.
