Amazon to set up centre in Visakhapatnam

In 2021-22, Visakhapatnam contributed Rs 776 crore IT exports of the total Rs 1,256 crore contribution of Andhra Pradesh

VISHAKHAPATNAM: After a substandard contribution to the IT sector in 2021-22, Andhra Pradesh is likely to get an Amazon Centre and other big IT companies to Visakhapatnam in 2023.

In a tweet, Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) Visakhapatnam said that Amazon would be opening a facility at Visakhapatnam with an initial investment of Rs 55.65 lakhs and approximately 120 jobs. The targeted increase in software export is likely to increase to Rs 184.12 crore in the next three years.

Currently, Visakhapatnam, the IT hub of Andhra Pradesh, has operations by Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Conduent, Miracle City, Patra India, WNS, Fluentgrid and Cyient. Recently, Adani Group was also allotted 130 acres in the city for establishing a data park with an estimated investment of Rs 14,500 crore.

In 2021-22, Visakhapatnam contributed Rs 776 crore IT exports of the total Rs 1,256 crore contribution of Andhra Pradesh. In comparison to this, Karnataka contributed almost Rs 4 lakh crores, Maharashtra Rs 2.3 lakh crores and Telangana Rs 1.8 lakh crore IT exports.
