AMARAVATI: Even as Cyclone Mandous fizzled out, a new cyclonic storm is brewing in the Bay of Bengal, presenting the prospect of more copious rains in some parts of southern states including Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The Meteorological Department spotted yet another cyclonic circulation in the South Arabian region of the Bay of Bengal on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, and predicted that it could intensify into a severe cyclone after December 16.

The officials of the weather department announced that the delta districts of Andhra Pradesh would receive rains till December 16 due to the circulation formed in the Gulf of Mannar region adjacent to Sri Lanka. The news comes as a double whammy for farmers, who faced hardships due to the drenching of their harvested crops in rains caused by Cyclone Mandous Cyclone.

While heavy rains are continuing in many parts of Tamil Nadu and South Coastal Andhra in the aftermath of Cyclone Mandous crossing the coast on Sunday night, widespread heavy rains are likely to occur in Andaman and Nicobar Islands besides parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on December 13 and 14 due to the circulation.

Meanwhile, incessant rains induced by Cyclone Mandous has created havoc in Andhra Pradesh, especially in Tirupati. According to the officials, KVB Puram mandal of Tirupati district in Andhra Pradesh recorded the highest rainfall, disrupting normal life while there was a power outage and collapse of trees due to strong winds in Chennai leaving five people dead.
