AMARAVATI: The Andhra Pradesh High Court ordered that a Contempt of Court case be filed against Andhra Pradesh Southern Region Power Distribution Company (APSPDCL) Managing Director K Santhosh Rao for misleading the court with lies.

Reportedly, the APSPDCL Managing Director, who was asked to attend a hearing related to the case of power connection to VL Ganapathi Granites, said that he would not be able to attend the hearing as he was physically ill.

However, High Court judge Justice Battu Devanand learned from the Special Chief Secretary (Special CS) K. Vijayanandan of the Department of Energy and Finance, who appeared before the court in the same case on Friday that Satish Rao was in fact fine and attended a review meeting on Thursday. The judge, furious over this, filed a contempt of court against him before adjourning the court till February 1.

High Court Judge Justice Devanand also ordered the court registry to file a contempt of court case in another case against Executive Engineer (EE) of APCPDCL Syed Abdul Karim for not abiding by a previous order of the court to start the power supply to the granite company.

Meanwhile, Vijayanand appeared before the court and briefed the court that he would take departmental action against Abdul Karim along with CPDCL Chairman Padma and SE Janardhan Reddy and assured that he would direct the department staff to implement the court orders. The judge recorded the details and exempted the three officials excluding Abdul Karim from attending the court in person.
