AMARAVATI: At least six districts of Andhra Pradesh are expected to be battered by heavy to very heavy rains under the impact of Cyclone Mandous. Nellore, Tirupati, Chittoor, Anantapur, Annamayya and Sri Satyasai are the districts that are likely to receive the cyclone-induced copious rains. Several parts of these districts have already started receiving incessant rains prompting district authorities of Tirupati and Chittoor to declare holidays to all educational institutions including schools and colleges until rains recede.

The cyclonic storm, which formed in the Bay of Bengal, is expected to hit the coast between Puducherry and Sriharikota after midnight on Friday and early hours of Saturday (December 10, 2022). Tamil Nadu is likely to bear the brunt of the cyclone as the landfall is expected around Mahabalipuram.

The Meteorological Department has also announced that there would be heavy rains in Prakasam and Kadapa districts as well with gusty winds of 50 kmph in South Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema districts on Friday. The Wind speed in these regions is expected to be around 85 kmph on Saturday. The weather department officials have warned people against venturing out unless extremely important and advised them to take necessary precautions.

Meanwhile, with the heavy rains lashing across the Chittoor district under the influence of Cyclone Mandous, the district collectors of Tirupati and Chittoor have announced holidays for schools and colleges from Friday afternoon. They warned the management of the private educational institutes of strict action if they failed to follow these orders.
