CHITOOR : An elephant calf accidentally fell into an open agricultural well in Mogili Gandlapalli of Bangurapalayam mandal in Chitoor district on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning while an elephant herd was passing through agricultural fields in Bangurapalayam mandal.

According to reports, the baby elephant was subsequently rescued by state forest department personnel after a few villagers alerted the department. The officials had to meticulously plan the rescue act to ensure that no injuries were caused to the pachyderm in the process.

People flocked to the well to catch a glimpse of the elephant calf that kept making frantic efforts to come out of the well on its own but in vain. Herds of elephants straying from their natural habitat and storming agricultural fields to feast on farm produce is a frequent occurrence in many parts of Chittoor, especially those closer to the forest area on the Andhra Pradesh-Tamil Nadu border.
