Is Sharmila Congress-Jana Sena-TDP connector? What’s cooking? Post-poll pact?

AMARAVATI: YS Sharmila, president of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) called on Konathala Ramakrishna, a staunch loyalist of her father the late Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday.

Quite naturally they discussed politics. But what politics would have come up between them.

Why this meeting assumed significance?

Before analysing the possible equations, however remote they are, we should consider a few facts.

1. Y S Sharmila parted ways with her brother and went to float a political party.

2. ⁠She launched a trenchant attack on KCR and his family and BRS.

3. ⁠Sharmila called off her attempt to contest from Paler Assembly seat in favour of Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy of the Congress.

4. ⁠She abruptly decided to merge her party with the Congress and met her brother’s betrayers Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi who perpetrated his incarceration and eventual exit from the Congress.

5. ⁠She demonstrated her wavering mentality by oscillating between whether to contest on behalf of her own party or the Congress, neither of which materialised.

6. ⁠She who claimed to be Telangana’s daughter-in-law suddenly switched her camp and moved to Andhra Pradesh, a totally new domain to find moorings.

7. ⁠She made her discord with her brother explicit while extending an invite of her son’s engagement and also during the actual function.

8. ⁠She used her son’s engagement as an occasion to visit the YSR family’s bitterest critic and Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy

9. ⁠She made peace with her family’s sworn enemy N Chandrababu Naidu who never spared an opportunity to torture her brother; and a political detractor of her father Dr YSR.

10. ⁠She was not seen inviting KCR or KTR. Except for Harish Rao, none from BRS was invited.

11. She went and invited Jagan’s bitterest critic and partner of Chandrababu Naidu’s political alliance Pawan Kalyan

12. ⁠She is now attempting to gather all spent forces like Chintha Mohan, KVP Ramachandra Rao and others in the Congress party in AP which was done and dusted a decade ago.

Konathala Ramakrishna as latest as on January 22 announced that he had chosen to sail with Pawan Kalyan who has now partnered with Chandrababu Naidu.

Konathala always had given pinpricks to Jagan while in the YSR Congress. He, who was the Minister for Commercial Taxes in the YSR Cabinet, has never won after the 2004 elections.

If Ramakrishna can solidify his equation with Pawan Kalyan, who is rallying strongly behind Naidu and also is part of the BJP-led NDA, will he be the conductor to complete the circuit of AP Congress, the Jana Sena Party, the TDP and perhaps the BJP.

If the BJP doesn’t join this political clique, it will have to snap connections with Pawan Kalyan. However, Chandrababu Naidu is desperate to join the alliance with the BJP.

On the other hand, he has nursed the Communists and kept them under his thumb for several years.

Though it may sound as a figment of fertile imagination, Naidu seems to be masterminding a cloak-and-dagger operation to align all parties against YS Jagan.

In fact, Jagan always quotes the idiom that “A lion walks alone while the sheep flock together.”

Would Sharmila play second fiddle to Naidu, along with Pawan Kalyan and maybe BJP or Communists after the 2024 elections to keep Jagan at bay?

Is it all a political expediency or a cupidinous delinquency or skullduggery?

Will she be the wire to bind all the parties that are together desperate to oust YS Jagan Mohan Reddy from power? Time will tell.
