NEW DELHI: Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs and Jal Shakti Bisweshwar Tudu on Monday clarified in Rajya Sabha that the Central government was reimbursing the expenditure spent on Polavaram Irrigation Project from time to time. He asserted that there was no delay in the payments for the project works.

Replying to a question posed by YSRCP Member V Vijayasai Reddy on Polavaram funds, the minister said that, out of Rs 15,000 crores spent on the construction of Polavaram from April 1, 2014, to October this year, the Centre had reimbursed Rs 13,226 crore for the bills found to be acceptable.

Stating that the Central government decided to grant funds to the Polavaram irrigation project through the Finance Ministry on September 30, 2016, the Union Minister of State said that the release of funds were made after the bills were checked by Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) and Central Water Corporation (CWC).

However, the Minister clarified that the Central government would reimburse only the expenditure under the irrigation component from April 1, 2014, according to the office memorandum. He said that the cost was being compensated in time.
