TIRUPATI: Law students belonging to Tamil Nadu created ruckus at SV Puram Toll Plaza in Vadamalapeta mandal of Tirupati district and fought a pitched battle with the toll staff following a dispute over payment of toll fee.

According to information, students of Tamil Nadu, who are studying law at Puttur Private College, have been writing their examinations in Tirupati for the past few days. On the last day of examinations, a law student got into a fight with the toll staff over payment of toll fee.

With the Fastag of their vehicle showing no balance to pay the toll, the toll staff told the students to clear the way for others. Enraged by this, they got into an altercation with the toll staff. As tempers ran high, the Tamil Nadu students first attacked the staff with helmets which led to an ugly brawl.

On receiving information, Vadalamalapeta Sub-Inspector Ramanjaneyu reached the spot with his team and tried to persuade the Tamil Nadu law students to move aside asking them not to create inconvenience for other vehicles. However, the law students were adamant and had an altercation with police and staff, which led to a quarrel between students and the locals. Tension prevailed as a free-for-all ensued with the adjoining area of the toll plaza resembling a battlefield.

Meanwhile, the law students expressed their regional sentiment and gave way to Tamil Nadu vehicles at the tollgate while detaining vehicles of Andhra Pradesh. SI Ramanjaneyulu said that they would collect full details about the incident and take appropriate action.
