AMARAVATI: Coinciding with the latest Coronavirus scare, two cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Andhra Pradesh in the last two days. While one person tested positive in Chittoor, the other case was reported from Visakhapatnam.

A person belonging to Santipuram mandal of Chittoor district was diagnosed with COVID-19 following an RTPCR test at a PHC in Kuppam on Monday. He was immediately shifted to Ruia Hospital in Tirupati for treatment in isolation. However, much to the consternation of the authorities, the patient, undergoing treatment in the IDH ward, disappeared from the hospital on Tuesday afternoon without any information.

Ruia hospital Superintendent Sureshwar Reddy said that the patient tested positive despite not having any symptoms of the disease. "RT-PCR tests of the patient were taken. The patient kept quarrelling with the staff to discharge him as he does not have any symptoms. Since we refused to oblige, he left the hospital during the lunch break without informing anyone," he said.

On the other hand, a 42-year-old man from New Railway Colony in Visakhapatnam also tested positive for COVID-19. The patient suffering from fever, was advised by his doctor to undergo the rapid test. As he tested positive, the patient was admitted to a private hospital in Arilova health city. The samples of the patient were collected and were sent to a laboratory in Vijayawada for genome sequencing.
