AP CID arrested senior journalist Kollu Ankababu on the charge of spreading false news against the State Government on social media platforms
AMARAVATI: Sleuths of the Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department (AP CID) on Thursday night arrested senior journalist Kollu Ankababu in Guntur district on the charge of willfully spreading false news against the State Government on social media platforms. The CID registered cases against the senior journalist under sections 120B, 153 and 550 of IPC. He was shifted to GGH for a medical examination on Friday and was also expected to be produced in the court later in the day.
The CID officlas claim that they had received a complaint against Ankababu for posting malicious information against the state government officials. The journalist was accused of wrongly reporting an incident where a woman was caught at the Gannavaram Airport for allegedly smuggling gold from abroad to evade tax.
Meanwhile, former minister and TDP leader Devineni Umamaheswara Rao visited Guntur CID office late on Thursday night to meet the senior journalist. However, he was restrained by the police. Devineni Uma, enraged by the conduct of the police, staged a protest while raising slogans against the government.
