Hyderabad: Mani Ratnam's dream project Ponniyin Selvan Part:1 hit the screens on September 30, amidst heavy expectations. PS-I is based on the novel Ponniyin Selvan, written by Kalki Krishnamoorthy. Upon its release, the film received a sensational response in Tamil. However, it failed to impress the other language audiences.

According to the Kollywood trade reports, PS-1 has now surpassed the lifetime collections of Vikram and emerged as the biggest hit of this year in Kollywood. As of now, PS-I collected more than 400 crores at the box office and is expected to do well in the coming days too.

On the other side, people of other languages are wondering how PS-I emerged as the biggest hit in Tamil in spite of its poor content. They opined that this is not even the best work of Mani Ratnam. They felt the film is slow and painful to understand who didn't read the five-part novel.

In that way, PS-I emerged as an all-time blockbuster in Tamil and failed to do well in the rest of the languages.

This period epic features Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Aishwarya Rai and Aishwarya Lekshmi in the lead roles.
