HYDERABAD: Gunasekhar is one of the few directors who started making big-budget films right from the beginning stages of his career. His last film Rudhramadevi was released way back in 2015. After a long break, he is now coming up with his new film Shaakuntalam. Starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the titular role, the trailer of this movie was unveiled this morning.

Shaakuntalam is based on the story of Shakuntala and Dushyanta from the mythological epic Mahabharata. The trailer introduces us to the world of Shakuntala and gives us a sneak peek into her story. Dev Mohan plays the role of Dushyanta. Mohan Babu, Prakash Raj, Aditi Balan, Gautami and Ananya Nagalla will be seen in key roles.

The canvas of Shaakuntalam looks grand but the poor VFX work is a bit disappointing. The VFX work reminds us of Rudhramadevi. Technology evolved so much in these seven years but Gunasekhar seems to have failed in upping his VFX game. We have to see if he proves this criticism wrong when the film hits the screens.

Shaakuntalam's trailer also gives us a glimpse of Allu Arha, who is making her acting debut with this movie. It is slated for a grand release on February 17 in Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam and Tamil languages.
