HYDERABAD: As Ramzan approaches, there is excitement in the air as a few eateries in the city have already begun serving the city's beloved Ramzan dish, Haleem, while many other restaurants and hotels are busy finalising preparations for their Haleem stalls.

However, Haleem fans could end up digging deep into their pockets this year as Haleem prices are expected to see a slight increase this season, ranging from Rs 20 to Rs 50 per serving. This hike is attributed to the rising cost of ingredients used in making this delectable dish.

The popularity of Haleem has led to some renowned establishments start serving it even before Ramzan. Café 555 at Masab Tank, for instance, begins serving their Haleem every year on Shab-e-Baraat. Similarly, Paradise Food Court and other outlets are already seeing a surge in customers eager to get their hands on the delicacy.

From mutton and chicken to ghee, dry fruits, eggs, and other essential components, hoteliers have reported a rise in the cost of all ingredients, necessitating a price increase. Last year, Haleem prices ranged between Rs 200 and Rs 280.

"With the early launch of Haleem this year, the current price is Rs 250. However, an increase is likely during Ramzan due to rising ingredient costs," explained Ali Reza Jowkar of Café 555.

Ali, MD of the Lucky group of restaurants, echoed this sentiment, stating that the final price would be determined after considering the official announcement from hotel management and the increase in ingredient prices, particularly mutton, ghee, and dry fruits.

Taking cue from previous seasons, Haleem lovers could once again relish Haleem flavours and options like 'juicy mutton nalli gosht' and 'zubaan haleem', alongside the classic Haleem.

Packed with protein-rich lentils, meat, and wheat, Haleem serves as a delicious and fulfilling meal for those breaking their fast during Ramzan. Café 555 prides itself on bringing authentic Hyderabadi Haleem to its customers, using traditional Persian cooking techniques like 'Rosh Pukht' (slow-cooked), 'Aabgosht Aush' (slowed bone broth), and 'barista' (garnish of perfectly fried onions). They offer a variety of options, including nalli ghost, zubaan, chicken 65, and boiled eggs, creating a rich and layered flavor experience.

Pista House, with over 40 outlets in the city, opts to start serving Haleem on the first day of Ramzan, but promises to maintain its authenticity. "The ingredient proportions and taste will remain unchanged," says MA Majed of Pista House. "Taste and authenticity are what we're known for."

Other popular Haleem makers like Café Bahar, Lucky Restaurants, Sarvi, Bawarchi, Shah Ghouse Café, Diamond Hotel, and Bombay Hotel are all gearing up for the season and will begin serving Haleem on the first day of Ramzan.
