5-cr hawala cash seized in Hyderabad ahead of Munugode bypoll

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Police have seized around Rs 5.5 crores hawala money from various locations in Hyderabad in two consecutive days. Around Rs 3.5 crores were seized on Tuesday while currency to the tune of Rs 2 crores was confiscated on Wednesday.

Acting on a tip-off, the sleuths of North Zone Task Force, along with Gandhi Nagar police, inspected two cars near Marriott Hotel and recovered Rs 3.5 crores of unaccounted cash. The police suspect the money was being transported to Munugode to influence the voters there ahead of the by-election. The police apprehended six persons in this connection and sent the seized cash to the Income Tax department for further investigation.

On Wednesday, the Hyderabad West Zone Task Force team seized Rs 2 crores of unaccounted money while it was being transported in a car in the Banjara Hills PS limits. Four persons were arrested for further questioning.
