Another suicide rocks SHAR: CISF SI Vikas Singh's wife hangs self to death

TIRUPATI: In a third suicide rocking the Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR in Sriharikota in four days, Priya Singh, the widow of CISF Sub-Inspector Vikas Singh also ended her life on Wednesday morning.

Tragically, Priya Singh (27) resorted to the extreme step at the Narmada Guest House, two days after her husband Vikas Singh died by suicide by turning his pistol on himself. Three suicides occurring in quick succession has caused commotion on the space centre campus, located near Sullurpeta of Tirupati district.

According to reports, Priya Singh (27), along with her relatives rushed to SHAR from her native state Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday after being informed about her husband’s death. She attended police questioning on Tuesday after which she stayed at the Narmada guest house, where she ended her life by hanging.

The family members immediately informed the CISF personnel, who shifted the body to Sullurupeta General Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The police suspected that financial issues and their son’s health could have driven the couple to take their lives.

CISF Sub-Inspector Vikas Singh (33) died by suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver on Monday night. The couple had a son and two daughters, one of whom was disabled.

On Sunday night, Chintamani a CISF security personnel haling from Sankara village in Mahasmand district of Chhattisgarh, also died by suicide at PCMC Radar-1 area. His body was found hanging from a tree in what the authorities described as a suicide. The series of suicides at the renowned space research centre became a talking point across the state while the staff at SHAR expressed concern over the sudden spate of suicides of their fellow employees.
