Five killed, 10 injured in road mishap on Vijayawada-Hyderabad national highway

SURYAPET : Five people were killed and 10 others were injured in a road accident occurred on the Vijayawada-Hyderabad national highway on Saturday midnight. The accident occurred at the petrol station on the outskirts of Munagala mandal of Suryapet district.

Devotees hailing from Munagala were returning home in a tractor after attending the 'Mahapadi Puja' in Ayyappaswamy temple near Sagar Canal. Reportedly, several passengers are said to be in critical conditions. The toll is likely to increase, said the doctors treating the injured. After the puja, about 38 people were returning home in the tractor.

According to reports, the tractor was traveling in the wrong route and therefore was hit by a lorry which was travelling from Vijayawada towards Hyderabad.

The injured were taken to nearby hospitals in available vehicles, as there was no proper ambulance facility. Tanniru Pramila (35), Chintakayala Pramila (33), Uday Lokesh (8) and Naragani Kotaiah (55) of Munagala mandal center lost their lives on the way to the hospital. A woman, Gandu Jyoti (38) died while undergoing treatment.

Others passengers in critical condition were shifted to Khammam and Suryapet hospital for better treatment.

Police who had recieved the information about the accident, reached the spot and initiated rescue operations. The locals nearby had also reached the accident site and tried transporting the injured to the hospitals.
